Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Sets and removes tools.

Performs routine equipment maintenance.

Assists work crews in the installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, stormwater lines, channels, and structures, large water meters, valves, fire hydrants, and other equipment.

Uses tools such as hand tools, shovels, jackhammers, and power tools.

May assist with on-call shifts as needed.

Assists Public Works department with snow removal activities.

Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily based on mechanical principles.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 1-year work experience related to manual labor.
  • Abilities: Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time; ability to understand oral and written instructions; ability to operate or receive training on various types of maintenance and construction equipment; ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively; ability to work overtime, call back duty, and standby with forty-five-minute response times; ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Skills: Skill in the use of ground maintenance equipment and the use of hand tools preferred.
  • Licenses and/or Certificates: State-issued driver's license with a good driving history required; current commercial driver's license or ability to obtain a Colorado commercial driver's license within six months of hire date.

Physical Demands

  • Heavy physical work.
  • Requires the ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing over 100 pounds, with assistance.
  • Considerable walking and standing.
  • Frequently performs activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of equipment and vehicles.
  • Visual ability for reading gauges and written instruction.
  • Hearing/listening for instructions and warning signals.
