Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conducting routine water testing and recording test results.
  • Making sure all charts, gauges, digital screens, and other equipment are functioning correctly.
  • Calculating the chemical feed rate required, calibrating feed equipment, and adjusting feed rate based on lab tests or supervisor instructions.
  • Performing and recording routine and special installation, maintenance, and/or repair of all equipment and grounds, and keeping the workplace clean.
  • Analyzing system parameters and notifying when additional help is needed (e.g., a main break).
  • Maintaining appropriate chemical inventory levels.
  • Operating water treatment plants, wells, and ancillary equipment using SCADA control interfaces.
  • Taking direction from company water quality personnel regarding water sampling, scheduling, handling, and the like.
  • Performing basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, pumping, and other equipment and facilities associated with water production, treatment, and control.
  • Using digital tools, computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and software to communicate and perform and record work.
  • Taking various shift assignments and on-call duty on a regular, rotational basis.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Previous experience in water production and/or water treatment operation roles is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, comprehend, and communicate technical manuals, engineering plans, and other relevant documents.
  • Basic knowledge of water system operations, basic construction, and plumbing applications and practices, including disinfection, disinfection byproducts, and corrosion control.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, pumping, and other equipment and facilities associated with water production, treatment, and control.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with business office computing systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing and frequent walking.
  • Occasional working at heights, lifting/carrying up to 51 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 94 lbs., reaching at trunk level and above shoulder level, and performing fine motor dexterity tasks.
  • Frequent crouching, kneeling, stooping/bending, twisting, and reaching below grade level.
  • Driving is performed frequently, involving route reading and routine oil changes and maintenance.
  • Physical ability/dexterity to perform maintenance/repairs.
