Essential Functions
- Water and Wastewater System Installation and Maintenance
- Installs and maintains City’s wastewater and water systems.
- Installs and repairs fire hydrants.
- Sets water meters and irrigation meters.
- Installs and maintains wastewater service mains and lines.
- Utilizes hand power tools to install and maintain wastewater and water system components.
- Maintains tools utilized in wastewater and water system installation and maintenance.
- Operates Heavy Equipment
- Operates a variety of heavy equipment utilized in the installation and maintenance of wastewater and water system infrastructure.
- Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators and dump trucks utilized in installing and maintaining the City’s wastewater and water systems.
- Maintains all equipment for needed repairs or maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain this license within six (6) months of employment; must be insurable.
- Able to work overtime and non-standard hours when required.
- Able to travel to attend professional development workshops and training programs.
- Able to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

- Writing skills to develop professional reports and other materials using correct English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Math skills to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to operate hand power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to use a multiline telephone and two-way radio.
- Ability to effectively work with other crew members.
- Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and patient manner.
- Ability to prioritize work projects and multi-task.
- Ability to organize files and work projects.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to drive.
Physical Demands
- The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs., crouching, or crawling in restricted areas.
Work Environment
- The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights under extreme weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
