WATER SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Essential Functions

• Water and Wastewater System Installation and Maintenance
• Installs and maintains City’s wastewater and water systems.
• Installs and repairs fire hydrants.
• Sets water meters and irrigation meters.
• Installs and maintains wastewater service mains and lines.
• Utilizes hand power tools to install and maintain wastewater and water system components.
• Maintains tools utilized in wastewater and water system installation and maintenance.
• Operates Heavy Equipment
• Operates a variety of heavy equipment utilized in the installation and maintenance of wastewater and water system infrastructure.
• Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators and dump trucks utilized in installing and maintaining the City’s wastewater and water systems.
• Maintains all equipment for needed repairs or maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain this license within six (6) months of employment; must be insurable.
• Able to work overtime and non-standard hours when required.
• Able to travel to attend professional development workshops and training programs.
• Able to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

• Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.
• Ability to use a multiline telephone and two-way radio.
• Ability to effectively work with other crew members.
• Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and patient manner.
• Ability to prioritize work projects and multi-task.
• Ability to organize files and work projects.
• Ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Ability to drive.

Physical Demands

• The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs., crouching, or crawling in restricted areas.

Work Environment

• The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights under extreme weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
