Water Production Section Manager
About the role
The Water Production Section Manager oversees operations at two water production facilities (98 MGD, and 150 MGD) and manages a team of approximately 50 operations staff. The role involves ensuring compliance with all permit requirements for Drinking Water and managing the operations budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage support functions across two large water production facilities.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings, periodic EH&S audits, and ensure EPA/OSHA/State compliance.
- Maintain personal command of all facility permit requirements.
- Maintain Process Control Strategies, ensuring all SOPs are current, established, and actively used.
- Prepare and present reports on projects, budgets, and personnel.
- Conduct daily/weekly team briefings; Promptly report and provide updates to Department Leadership; Act as a liaison by communicating water production matters to other divisions, departments, and Gwinnett County citizens.
- Manage facility O&M and capital budgets.
- Work closely with the Central Laboratory to maintain QA/QC protocols and manage all regulatory data.
- Collaborate with Section Managers for Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance to optimize the operation and maintenance of the facilities and review/update procedures and guidelines for operations and maintenance employees.
- Utilize DWR’s in-house Employee Skills and Development (EDS) Program to track and maintain career paths for employees, manage performance, and support succession planning.
- Assist with developing the Capital Improvement Program and implementing the short-term and long-term rehabilitation and renewal programs.
- Benchmark facility performance, apply for state and EPA operational excellence awards, track industry trends, and develop improvement strategies.
- Create and maintain active Improvement Plan, track and act on suggestions, and manage capital forecasts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field AND Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment, including two (2) years' experience as a manager;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered;
- Georgia Class I Water Certification.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership, project management, and technical expertise in facility operations.
- Experience with large-scale water production facilities, as well as a track record of successfully implementing asset management and information system improvements.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Benefits
Grade 108. Salary will be dependent on education and experience. Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
