Basic Function
Under direction, on an assigned shift, maintains and operates a water plant and assists in the care and maintenance of plant equipment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Installs, repairs, and locates water and sewer mains and lines
- Maintains operation of the water treatment plant
- Reads, maintains, repairs, tests, and replaces water meters
- Turns on and off water service
- Maintains and repairs water pumps and service stations
- Helps maintain plant buildings and grounds
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods and tools used to read, repair, and operate water meters
- Ability to assist in the repair and overhaul of plant equipment
- Ability to read gauges and recording devices
- Ability to keep routine records
- Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools
- Ability to follow written and oral directions
- Ability to make arithmetic calculations
Education and Experience
- Completion of high school or GED
- Two years experience applying mechanical knowledge or the principles of chemistry preferred
Special Requirements
- A current Kansas drivers license
- Must become certified as a Kansas Class I Water Treatment Operator within eighteen months of employment
- Must comply with state mandated continuing education requirements
Physical Requirements
- Intense physical effort is required.
- Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.
- Working Conditions
- Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
SALARY RANGE
The starting salary for this position is $16.99 per hour plus benefits.
