Primary Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the potable water and wastewater treatment plants
- Perform routine plant inspections and operational maintenance
- Perform required daily operating tests and document results
- Maintain compliance with Pennsylvania DEP requirements and applicable facility permits
- Monitor treatment processes and make process-control decisions as required
- Maintain accurate operational records
- Recognize abnormal operating conditions and respond appropriately
- Respond to compliance issues in accordance with established reporting requirements
- Identify and communicate equipment or facility conditions requiring repair
- Maintain treatment and testing areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition
- Follow applicable OSHA, Pennsylvania DEP, NPS, environmental, safety, and health requirements
- Use and maintain required personal protective equipment
- Provide basic instruction and guidance to designated NPS personnel
- Communicate clearly with I-2-I management and Government representatives
Required Qualifications
- Current operator licensing sufficient to meet the Pennsylvania DEP requirements listed above
- Knowledge and practical experience in potable-water treatment operations
- Knowledge and practical experience in activated-sludge wastewater treatment operations
- Ability to independently monitor treatment processes and make appropriate process-control decisions
- Experience performing water and wastewater operational testing
- Experience collecting compliance samples and maintaining sampling documentation
- Familiarity with NPDES and Pennsylvania DEP compliance requirements
- Ability to interpret operating data, instrumentation readings, and laboratory results
- Ability to recognize abnormal treatment conditions and determine appropriate corrective operational actions
- Ability to maintain accurate logs, records, reports, and compliance documentation
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to communicate clearly with facility personnel, management, laboratories, and regulatory or Government representatives
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and complete required written reports
- Ability to comply with Federal, Pennsylvania, NPS, OSHA, environmental, health, and safety requirements
- Ability to meet the required two-hour emergency onsite response time
