About the role

We are currently seeking a Water Engineer Co-Op/Intern to join our Water Business Line in our Columbus, OH office for Fall (September/October) 2026, Spring (January) 2027, or Summer 2027. We work to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations.

As a Water Engineer Co-Op/Intern, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of water engineering projects, including evaluating, planning, designing, and supporting the management of projects related to water, wastewater, and stormwater—such as treatment, pipelines, and pumping facilities. You will also contribute to sustainability and resilience projects, including vulnerability and mitigation assessments, as well as planning and design for utilities, municipalities, and cities.

Opportunities for field work include conducting site visits, performing sampling, analyzing water quality, evaluating technologies, gathering plant operations information, troubleshooting processes, and optimizing systems. You may also support Asset Management projects through data analytics, operational and organizational assessments, condition assessments, and performance evaluations of water, wastewater, and stormwater facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of water, wastewater, and stormwater projects, including treatment facilities, pumping stations, and water and sewer mains.
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and other materials, and participate in client meetings.
  • Ensure project compliance with Arcadis practices and quality, health, and safety standards.
  • Facilitate coordination for timely project completion and submission within budget.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with team members across the U.S. and internationally.
  • Learn and use digital tools to enhance customer experience, team collaboration, and project delivery, including SharePoint, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Power BI, and Augmented Reality.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and flexible approach to addressing new challenges.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid understanding of engineering concepts, theories, and practices related to water, wastewater, and stormwater.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • Required: Pursuing a BS in Civil, Environmental, or a closely related academic discipline.
  • Preferred: Prior internship or coursework in water/wastewater, water resources, or related sectors.
  • EIT certification or desire to obtain.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $22.47–$33.70 per hour.
