About the role
The position involves performing a variety of semi-skilled and manual work involved in the maintenance, installation, and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Responsibilities
- Learn, assist with, and perform under supervision, the maintenance and repairs of water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, manholes, meters and related infrastructure.
- Learn, assist with, and perform under supervision, preventative maintenance and emergency operations of the wastewater collection line to include but not limited to, identifying system defects and structural failure, and working with cleaning and inspection equipment as necessary.
- Learn, assist with, and perform under supervision, the installation of water sewer service connections.
- Perform maintenance of utility easements and rights of way, as well as, maintenance of vehicles, equipment, tools and facilities.
- Generate and complete work orders utilizing computerized maintenance system and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Apprentice Water Distribution and WW Collection Operator: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Texas Class B CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain within 90 days from date of hire, and ability to maintain. Available for emergency response. Ability to perform essential duties in an environment that entails a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures; frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, pushing/pulling; and exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals in a potentially hazardous work area and environmental conditions.
- Water Distribution and WW Collection Operator I: Six (6) month to one (1) year experience. Texas Class B CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement and ability to maintain. Class D Water License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Class I Wastewater Collection License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Water Distribution and WW Collection Operator II: Two (2) years experience. Texas Class A CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement and ability to maintain. Class D Water License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Class I Wastewater Collection License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
