About the role

Under supervision, performs routine security inspections of buildings and grounds to prevent trespassing, property damage or loss.

Responsibilities

• Conducts periodic tours of buildings and grounds to inspect doors, windows, gates, locks and equipment.
• Monitors for unauthorized entry, fire hazards, leaks from water or steam lines, and other conditions which might result in property damage or loss.
• Maintains order by preventing trespassing and discouraging loitering.
• Responds to incoming telephone calls and doorbells.
• Operates elevators during emergency situations.
• May operate heating equipment as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid New York State Security Guard registration card issued by the Department of State.
• Satisfactory completion of a 16-hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) course within ninety (90) days of employment.

Special Note: Employees in this title are required to complete an 8-hour in-service training course within one (1) calendar year of completion of the 16-hour OJT course, and annually thereafter.
