WSP is currently seeking a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician to join the team at the Questa, New Mexico plant. Be involved in projects with the Mining Team and contribute to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves their challenges.

About the role

Assist colleagues in the water treatment plant process with monitoring and adjustments. Perform laboratory water and process sampling QA/QC, including solids analysis and benchtop spectrophotometer analysis of water samples. Conduct influent water source sample collection and equipment monitoring at remote locations. Perform data collection and data entry of process and operations information into logbooks up to 6 times per day. Operate a filter press up to 12 times per day and monitor extended systems critical to the plant process, such as chemical feeds, influent water sources, and lift stations. Operate and maintain heavy mobile construction equipment for offloading deliveries, transporting filter cake to the on-site repository, building maintenance, and snow removal. Assist maintenance personnel with repairs, grounds maintenance, and respond to callouts for special projects on an on-call basis.

Responsibilities

  • Operate filter press up to 12 times per day.
  • Monitor critical plant systems, including chemical feeds, influent water sources, and lift stations.
  • Operate and maintain heavy mobile construction equipment for offloading, deliveries, filter cake transport, building maintenance, and snow removal.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and grounds maintenance.
  • Respond to on-call requests for special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of plant operations experience.
  • Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or possess a current certificate.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Ability to operate heavy mobile construction equipment.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must pass a HAZWOPER physical.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely in accordance with site health and safety plans and industry best practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds several times per day.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and on unimproved areas of the site several times per day.

Preferred Qualifications

  • New Mexico wastewater treatment operator certification "D" level or higher.
  • Two or more years of experience operating an industrial wastewater treatment plant.
  • DOT licensed driver with water tanker certification (a plus).

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Job sites may be located at various elevations, including mountain environments above 8,000 feet.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, including heat, cold, and snowy conditions.
  • Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility clothing, steel-toed work boots, anti-slip footwear, and occasional respirator use.
  • Manual dexterity required for equipment operation.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, reaching, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and ascending stairs throughout the facility.
  • Walking the process floor and hiking unimproved areas of the site; walking may exceed several miles per day.
