About the Role

Metal Finishing Technologies operates a water treatment system for cyanide destruction, hexavalent chromium reduction, and metals removal. The candidate will operate the treatment system in accordance with MFT procedures and in compliance with state and federal regulations. Experience in the metal finishing industry with plating line water is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all MFT procedures to operate and maintain the wastewater treatment (WWT) system.
  • Monitor control panels and adjust valves manually to regulate flow as required.
  • Observe variation in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and test results.
  • Collect weekly effluent samples and fill out chain of custody.
  • Respond to and correct situations causing alarms in the waste treatment area.
  • Regulate the disposal of solutions from production lines to maintain the integrity of the WWT system.
  • Alert production management of reasons for curtailing water usage in case of system malfunction.
  • Keep a daily logbook of plant operations, change and update charts.
  • Calibrate and clean probes.
  • Operate pH meter and Hach Spectrophotometer.
  • Clean clarifier weekly or as necessary.
  • Receive bulk deliveries of 50% liquid caustic soda and bleach.
  • Operate the sludge filter press and dryer.
  • Maintain pump-out area and wash-out area.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment in performing job functions and do so in a safe manner.
  • Serve as back-up to Chemical Maintenance as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Attention to detail, including recordkeeping.
  • Able to work safely with hazardous materials.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical issues.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Able to climb ladders.
  • Able to obtain OSHA 10 and HAZWOPER 24-hour certifications.
  • Must obtain a company forklift certification within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • Experience in metal finishing/plating water treatment plant operations (preferred).
  • Forklift experience (preferred).
  • Current HAZWOPER certification (preferred).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and MS Excel (preferred).
