Wastewater Treatment Operator

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and monitor wastewater treatment plant systems, pump motors, and related equipment to ensure efficient treatment processes.
• Maintain grounds at the treatment plant.
• Collect and analyze wastewater samples for testing and maintain chemical inventory for the treatment processes.
• Perform routine inspections of the wastewater collection system to identify and address issues such as blockages, leaks and structural problems.
• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, Jetter and other heavy equipment to perform maintenance or repair tasks.
• Respond to emergency situations including sewer backups and treatment plant failures, as required.

Required Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or equivalent.
• A valid State of Alabama Driver's License.
• Certification as a Wastewater Operator Grade 3 or higher is required to obtain within a year of hire date.
• Must be available during nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Familiarity with the operation of pump motors and other mechanical equipment.
• Must be able to respond to an emergency call within 30 minutes.

Preferred Qualifications

• ADEM Grade III certified or higher Wastewater Operator.
• 3 to 5 years' experience in a wastewater related field.
• Experience with heavy equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

To be determined based on qualifications.

Schedule

Nights, weekends, and holidays are required.
