About the role

The City of Round Rock’s Public Works Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Systems Mechanic for the wastewater treatment plant. Ideal candidates will bring strong technical skills, a commitment to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and safety.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Systems Mechanic will assist with providing support in the maintenance and repair of components of the Water and Wastewater Plants as well as the water distribution systems and to keep sewer lift station functioning.

• Inspect and repair pumps, motors, water storage tanks, motor control panels, remote communications equipment, and pressure regulating valves
• Monitor chlorine levels and supply pressure of drinking water
• Maintain the distribution system by repairing or replacing pumps and controls
• Troubleshoot and repair pumps and controls in water lines
• Maintain pump systems and repair high voltage controls up to 2,400 volts to motor control panels and motors
• Perform on call duties by responding to water distribution and lift stations problems 24/7

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Six months of general work experience OR Degree and/or certificate from an accredited University or Institute in Industrial Maintenance, Pump System Hydraulics, Electrical and Industrial Technology (for Systems Mechanic-In-Training)
• One (1) year of experience as a mechanic or electrician (for Systems Mechanic)

Qualifications

• Obtain Class D Water OR Wastewater Collection I OR Class D Wastewater Operator from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within the first 12 months of employment
• Class C Texas Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to employment

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $44,720 to $54,080 (for Systems Mechanic-In-Training) or $49,920 to $60,840 (for Systems Mechanic) depending on experience.
