About the Role

This posting includes multiple levels of Wastewater Plant Operator positions, ranging from Trainee to Class A, B, and C licensed operators. All positions are safety-sensitive and subject to safety regulations.

Pay

  • Wastewater Plant Operator – Trainee: $18.77 - $23.93 per hour
  • Wastewater Plant Operator “A”: $24.26 - $30.935 per hour
  • Wastewater Plant Operator “B”: $22.62 - $28.845 per hour
  • Wastewater Plant Operator “C”: $21.10 - $26.90 per hour

Responsibilities

All levels of Wastewater Plant Operators perform skilled work in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, including:

  • Making proper adjustments to equipment, machinery operating controls, and related control apparatus in accordance with established procedures and standards.
  • Exercising independent judgment in routine adjustments; reporting unusual or major problems to a shift supervisor.
  • Performing other related work as assigned.

Requirements

All positions require:

  • A valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Passing an annual respirator physical and compliance with state mandates; no facial hair allowed between the face and the sealing surface of the respirator face piece.
  • Must have a phone or be reachable in the event of an emergency work situation.
  • A GOAA ID Badge within 90 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a GOAA Criminal History Record Check and Security Threat Assessment (see disqualifying crimes below).

Specific requirements by level:

  • Wastewater Plant Operator Trainee:
    • High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and successful completion of science courses related to wastewater treatment, water reclamation, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Must obtain a Class C Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license within two (2) years of hire date (a one-time six-month extension may be granted).
  • Wastewater Plant Operator “A”:
    • High School diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Florida Class A License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required.
  • Wastewater Plant Operator “B”:
    • High School diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Florida Class B License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required.
  • Wastewater Plant Operator “C”:
    • High School diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Florida Class C License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required.

Disqualifying Crimes

The following criminal history may disqualify applicants under Title 49 CFR 1542.209 and 1544.229:

  • Violence at international airports
  • Felony involving willful destruction of property, threat, importation or manufacture of a controlled substance, burglary, theft, dishonesty, fraud, misrepresentation, possession or distribution of stolen property, aggravated assault, bribery, or illegal possession of a controlled substance punishable by a maximum term of imprisonment of more than 1 year
  • Forgery of certificates, false making of aircraft and other aircraft registration violations
  • Interference with air navigation or flight crew members/flight attendants
  • Improper transportation of a hazardous material
  • Aircraft piracy or interference with flight operations
  • Carrying a weapon or explosive aboard an aircraft
  • Conveying false information and threats
  • Unlawful entry into an aircraft or airport area that serves air carriers or foreign air carriers contrary to established security requirements
  • Destruction of an aircraft or aircraft facility
  • Murder, assault with intent to murder, espionage, sedition, kidnapping or hostage taking, treason, rape or aggravated sexual abuse
  • Unlawful possession, use, sale, distribution, or manufacture of an explosive or weapon
  • Extortion, armed or felony unarmed robbery, distribution of or intent to distribute a controlled substance, felony arson
  • Conspiracy or attempt to commit any of the aforementioned criminal acts

Notes

If a degree is required for a position, the following experience may be substituted:

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
