Waste Water Technician
Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting, monitoring wastewater pit and staging tanks to prevent wastewater spills. Adjust the pH of the water prior to processing. Test the water with chemicals provided and adjust the chemical feed system to optimum operating levels. Monitor and judge the levels allowed for discharge as sewage to the City of El Paso.
Responsibilities
- Perform standard tests to ensure proper operation of the wastewater system and troubleshoot components when problems arise.
- Calibrate instrumentation per documentation.
- Perform routine analysis on samples using laboratory equipment.
- Use appropriate PPE.
- Perform minor maintenance and repair of equipment, including rebuilding pumps; coordinate standard PMs and repairs with the maintenance department.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Collect samples of wastewater, test for pH and reactivity to processing chemicals, and make adjustments to bring discharge water to proper levels.
- Adjust processing chemicals to ensure minimum quality standards are met.
- Ensure safe operations and escalate issues as needed.
- Conduct monitoring and sampling tests to maintain compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations governing wastewater treatment, stormwater, and sludge management.
- Comply with and enforce food quality, food safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Requirements
- 1 year of experience required.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes, cut-resistant gloves, jackets, aprons, arm guards, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Capable of climbing stairs, occasional kneeling, squatting, and lifting 50+ pounds.
Skills
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of operation methods, procedures, wastewater machinery, and pumping stations.
- General understanding of wet chemical processes.
- Ability to use hand tools and trades-type tools.
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment (desirable).
- Sheetrock wall repair knowledge.
- Knowledge of plumbing work.
- Knowledge in the use of electrical measurement tools (multimeter and ammeter).
- Knowledge in repair of centrifugal pumps for water systems.
Soft Skills
- Able to work on other tasks as assigned.
