Waste Services Garbage Truck Helper

About the role

The Collection Helper’s main responsibility is to collect (primarily by hand) and load refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle. Helpers are not permitted to operate a company vehicle unless designated as a CDL Helper. The position reports to the Operations Manager but is also supervised by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers.

Responsibilities

• Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to vehicle.
• Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal.
• Maintain and participate in daily clean-up of the vehicle.
• Learn garbage routes to better assist the driver.
• Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
• Work in close quarters with other staff members as part of a team.

Work Environment

• Helpers spend the majority of their time in the cab of the truck, on the back of the truck, or moving around it for trash collection.
• Must be able to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the workday.
• Must constantly lift, push, and pull waste bags and receptacles weighing 50-75+ lbs., often without wheels or handles.

Requirements

• Must meet physical standards as specified above.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Experience in the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
• Requires a team-player attitude for working in close quarters with other staff.

Pay

USD $21.30/Hr.

Schedule

• Monday - Saturday.
• Early start time (3:00 AM).
• Year-round, steady work.
