Waste Services Garbage Truck Helper

About the Role

Interstate Waste Services is the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services in the country. We primarily service Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, and have recently expanded our operations into Pennsylvania and Ohio. Our mission is to provide the highest quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while focusing on employee, customer, and environmental safety.

Responsibilities

• Collect and load refuse (primarily by hand) from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle.
• Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to the vehicle.
• Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal.
• Maintain and participate in the daily clean-up of the vehicle.
• Learn garbage routes to better assist the driver.
• Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
• Work in close quarters with other staff members, relying on one another as a team.

Work Environment

• Helpers spend the majority of their daily routine in the cab of the truck, on the back of the truck, or moving around the truck for trash collection.
• Must be able to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the workday.
• Must be able to constantly lift, push, and pull waste bags and receptacles weighing approximately 50-75+ lbs. as part of daily routine. Bags usually have no wheels or handles.

Requirements

• Must meet physical standards as specified above.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
• Requires a team-player attitude, as the job is spent in close quarters with other staff members.

Schedule

• Monday - Saturday (5-day workweek, Saturdays are required).
• Days off: Sunday plus 1 day during the workweek.
• Early start time: 4:20 AM.
• Year-round, steady work.

Pay

USD $18.00/Hr.
