Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate mechanical estimates
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related systems
- Prepare complete cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids
- Analyze historical data to improve estimate accuracy
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and sales teams during bid preparation
- Assist with bid presentations and post-bid reviews
- Maintain organized estimating files and databases
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years' experience in mechanical estimating or related construction role
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software (QSOFT, Bluebeam, Excel)
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- Experience with speculative budgeting, design-build, and negotiated projects
- Familiarity with local codes and industry standards
- Field experience in mechanical construction
