Warming Center Staff

About the role

The Seasonal Per Diem Warming Center Staff is responsible for supporting the Code Blue County Warming Center. The Warming Center is a county‑funded initiative with Oak Orchard Health as the lead agency facilitating the program’s operations. The Warming Center provides a safe space for county residents during inclement weather so they are not exposed to extreme conditions. This is a seasonal position.

Responsibilities

• Respond to Code Blue Alerts from Orleans County Department of Human Services
• Provide ongoing support to the Warming Center, in conjunction with Oak Orchard Health, and respond to crises
• Ensure the space is safe for residents and have sufficient knowledge to enact emergency services if crises arise
• Perform light cleaning following each shift to ensure the space is ready for future use

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to connect with Warming Center guests with a kind, empathetic, and trauma‑informed approach
• Ability to respond to crises using verbal de‑escalation skills and activating emergency services as needed
• Responsiveness to calls and emails, especially regarding Code Blue alert activation
• Strong leadership skills to support oversight of the center, including creation of on‑call schedules for warming center staff

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma or GED

Pay

On‑Call Compensation: $30 per 6‑hour on‑call shift.

Schedule

• Immediate Need Overnight shifts: 2:00 AM – 8:00 AM
• Weekend coverage
• Holiday coverage
• Warming Center Operating Hours:
  • Monday – Thursday: 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM
  • Friday: 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM
  • Saturday: Opens at 2:00 PM
