About the role
The Plumbing Warehouse is seeking a Warehouse Teammate/Delivery Driver at their Lake Charles, LA location. The ideal candidate thrives on providing excellent customer experiences, is safety and service-oriented, and possesses attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for counting, verifying, and receiving incoming vendor shipments and customer return material.
- Stock and maintain the warehouse; pick, document, and pack customer orders in accordance with Company policy and procedure.
- Act with a high attention to detail to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
- Handle all shipping discrepancies per procedures or forward appropriate paperwork to designated employee to handle.
- Identify nonstock, special-order material, and damaged material and store in proper warehouse locations.
- Complete necessary documentation for customer shipments delivered via third-party carrier.
- Load and unload trucks, operate warehouse forklift and other material handling equipment safely.
- Inform immediate supervisor of stock depletions, count discrepancies, or damaged/defective/nonsaleable merchandise that could impact customer service levels.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness, order, and safety.
- Remove empty cartons, metal bands, pallets, and other debris.
- Inform immediate supervisor of safety issues.
- Aid co-workers in servicing customers.
- Perform all job functions in accordance with the company's Safety Standards.
- Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs as assigned.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
- Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations.
- Destinations include job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other Hajoca locations, facilities of other wholesalers, or other locations as directed by management.
- Load the truck at the Profit Center with Hajoca merchandise to be delivered.
- Safely secure the load so that nothing will shift, get damaged, or fall from the truck.
- Ensure that the necessary equipment to safely unload the merchandise is available.
- Understand the shipping documents that are associated with the merchandise for each delivery and have accurate directions to each delivery destination.
- Review shipping documentation and ensure order accuracy.
- Unload correct merchandise from the truck and place it where the receiving party wants it.
- Obtain legible signature for all merchandise delivered per Company policy and procedure.
- Collect and secure outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries prior to releasing the material to the customer.
- Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately.
- Load the truck at other locations with merchandise.
- This includes merchandise picked up at vendor locations, returned by customers, and purchased from other wholesalers.
- Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered in the course of making deliveries.
- Inspect the truck and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating condition prior to departure from the Hajoca location.
- Keep truck clean of debris in cab and body.
- Advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck.
- At the end of the workday, complete the Driver's Daily Vehicle Inspection Report when driving a delivery vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 10,001 lbs. or more if a defect or deficiency is found.
- At the end of the workday, remove keys from the truck and store keys in the approved location.
- Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs as assigned.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
Requirements
- Be able to drive a vehicle over 10,000 lbs.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Possess a proper and valid driver's license.
- Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
- Pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and again at least every two years while employed and performing this job function.
- Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
- Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
- Build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
- Remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
- Learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
- Learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
- Read, write, speak and understand English.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
