Warehouse Supervisor
Position Summary
As a Warehouse Supervisor, you will own daily execution for assigned warehouse operations, ensuring productivity, accuracy, safety, labor efficiency, and on-time completion of work. This role leads daily start-up meetings, reviews attendance and labor availability, adjusts staffing based on workload, monitors job and order progress, and communicates risks or delays across departments. The Supervisor is responsible for driving measurable performance improvements through data analysis, employee coaching, accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives. This includes building and maintaining performance tracking tools, reviewing daily and weekly metrics, developing employees, and ensuring operational decisions are supported by measurable data.
Essential Functions
Operations Leadership
- Oversee assigned warehouse functions (Line, VAS, operations, Material Handling, etc.)
- Ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on time
- Maintain workflow, staffing, and daily production needs to meet goals
- Communicate job status, order progress, risks, labor constraints, and recovery plans across departments in a clear data-oriented manner
Performance Management & Coaching
- Conduct regular 1:1 check-ins with employees and Team Leaders
- Identify individual and team performance gaps using observation, data, and documented expectations; implement structured improvement plans
- Lead coaching, development, documentation, corrective action, written warnings, and Performance Improvement Plans in partnership with Warehouse Manager and HR
- Drive employee engagement, cross-training, skill development, accountability, and readiness for advancement
- Set clear daily expectations for Team Leaders and employees and follow up on results
- Hold employees accountable to productivity, quality, attendance, safety, and behavioral expectations
Data & Analytics
- Build, maintain, and improve performance tracking systems (Spreadsheets, Dashboards, databases, etc.)
- Establish, track, and improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including productivity, labor utilization, accuracy, attendance, rework, workflow efficiency, and on-time completion
- Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly trends to identify inefficiencies, performance gaps, staffing issues, and improvement opportunities
- Ensure operational decisions, staffing changes, coaching, and process improvements are supported by data whenever possible
- Develop new tracking tools and reporting methods where visibility gaps exist
- Maintain daily performance reporting for assigned area, including planned vs. actual output, labor hours, productivity, quality, and completion status
- Candidates and employees in this role must be comfortable using Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas, filters, pivot tables, and basic data analysis
- Ability to translate data into clear actions, follow-up plans, and measurable results is required
Reporting & Accountability
- Provide weekly and monthly updates including:
- Department performance against KPIs
- Labor plan vs. actual results
- Productivity, accuracy, attendance, and safety trends
- Employee performance insights
- Root causes of misses
- Corrective actions and owners
- Data-driven recommendations
Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and implement measurable improvements across assigned areas
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Warehouse, Planning, Customer Service, Quality, Inventory, and other departments to improve overall warehouse performance
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to reflect current best practices
- Lead or support at least one documented process improvement initiative per quarter
Safety & Compliance
- Attend and actively participate in all required safety meetings
- Ensure team compliance with all safety standards, PPE requirements, equipment rules, housekeeping expectations, and safe work practices
- Address unsafe behaviors immediately and document recurring issues
- Partner with Warehouse Manager, Safety, and HR on incident follow-up, corrective actions, and prevention
SOP Development, Training Documentation
- Develop and maintain detailed SOPs for all processes within assigned areas
- Ensure SOPs are regularly reviewed, updated, and aligned with current operations
- Train employees and Team Leaders on SOPs, process changes, quality expectations, and safety requirements
- Maintain accurate records of training completion and updates
- Ensure consistency and accountability through standardized procedures
- Verify training effectiveness through observation, performance data, and follow-up coaching
Cross-Functional Coverage & Business Continuity
- Develop and maintain working knowledge across all warehouse functions
- Partner with other Supervisors to ensure alignment in priorities and execution
- Be capable of supporting and overseeing other functional areas when needed
- Participate in cross-training and shared improvement initiatives
- Maintain visibility into key metrics, workflows, staffing constraints, and action plans across warehouse departments
- Maintain sufficient competency to step into another functional area with minimal disruption
- Support other supervisors during absences, labor shortages, volume spikes, or operational disruptions
Shared Ownership Mindset
- Operate with shared ownership over total warehouse performance
- Take ownership for overall productivity, accuracy, safety, labor efficiency, and service levels across all warehouse departments
- Proactively identify and address gaps impacting the broader operation

Computer Skills
- Advanced knowledge of shipping WMS is required
- Advanced experience in using handhelds and paperless systems
- Advanced knowledge of custom labeling
- Advanced knowledge of SAP is helpful
