About the role
Join us and help us create lifelong readers! Assist in the production and processing of book fairs by packing and unpacking metal cases, boxes, and displays with book and non-book product according to corporate process and procedure while meeting productivity and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Pack and unpack metal cases, boxes, and displays with book and non-book product, ensuring all components and sub-components are included.
- Consistently meet minimum required production, accuracy, and quality standards.
- Ensure condition of all outbound cases, boxes, and displays are clean, safe, and in good condition.
- Monitor inventory levels on applicable component product lines to ensure proper packing of book fairs.
- Demonstrate basic scanner proficiency for item inquiries and replenishment requests.
- Assist in the picking and packing of customer reorders.
- Maintain a neat, clean, safe, and organized work area at all times.
- Perform seasonal inventory production-line resets individually and with co-workers.
- Learn and demonstrate proficiency in all Fair Finishing and Assembly functions, including Quality Assurance scanning.
- Participate in Physical Inventory functions, including counting inventory.
- Assist in conducting Customer Appreciation Warehouse Sale Events.
- Handle all merchandise carefully at all times.
- Properly utilize warehouse equipment and tools to increase productivity, efficiency, and safety; report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or injuries immediately.
- Use proper techniques for lifting, packing, and handling heavy objects, climbing ladders, and pushing/pulling display cases.
- Accurately and timely complete Labor Data Collection Cards according to company standards.
- Operate motorized pallet jacks upon successful completion of the SBF power equipment training program.
- Maintain attendance and punctuality as required by assigned work schedule and company standards.
- Maintain courteous and positive relationships with all co-workers and customers.
- Comply with drug and alcohol-free policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate basic product scanner proficiency with minimal errors.
- Strong team player with the ability to get along with co-workers.
- Good verbal/written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to read documents in English (e.g., safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals).
Physical Demands
- Lift boxes weighing up to 50 lbs occasionally on a daily basis.
- Lift boxes weighing up to 30 lbs to a height of 70” occasionally on a daily basis.
- Push wheeled cases weighing in excess of 300 lbs, with an initial force of up to 50 lbs and a sustained force of up to 30 lbs.
- Stand, reach above and below the shoulders, squat, bend, and kneel as necessary to perform the job.
- Tolerate work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
- Accurately follow specific instructions for multiple detailed assembly processes.
- Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally sit and climb or balance.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
