Warehouse Operator/Material Handler - Forklift and Warehouse Experience is Required

About the role

This is a contract Warehouse Operator/Material Handler position at a medical device company in Sumter, SC. The role involves pulling materials from the post sterile cage to load trailers and containers, along with data entry to track materials moved into Outbound for correct ship-from location. Training is provided on first shift for a 3-2-2-3 day shift schedule (7am–7pm).

Responsibilities

• Pull materials from the post sterile cage to load trailers and containers
• Perform data entry for materials moved into Outbound to show the correct ship from location
• Use a variety of equipment such as forklifts, conveyers, cranes, handcarts, and power trucks to move materials, parts, assemblies, and finished products or goods
• Maintain records as needed
• Work within clearly defined SOPs and adhere to quality guidelines
• Apply basic knowledge and skills to complete routine tasks consisting of prescribed steps

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of previous forklift and warehouse experience is required
• Ability to read, write, interpret, and comprehend documents written in English
• Ability to perform basic math calculations
• Ability to perform/operate in a metrics-driven environment
• General computer skills
• Obtains and/or maintains appropriate licenses/training/certifications as needed

Skills

• Has basic skills training in an analytical/scientific method or operational process area (e.g., material handling and management, logistics, manufacturing production)
• Effective communication skills at a level co-workers and Team Lead/Supervisor can understand

Physical demands & work environment

• Regularly exposed to walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, balancing, climbing, lifting, crouching, reaching, pulling, pushing, grasping, talking, hearing, twisting, and frequent use of hands to finger, handle, feel, pick, or type (including repetitive motion of wrists, hands, or fingers)
• Requires lifting and/or moving over 50 lbs
• Exposure to work near moving mechanical parts, extreme weather conditions, and vibration
• Occasional exposure to work in high, precarious places and fumes/airborne particles
• Hot in summer months (no AC) and cold in winter months (limited heating)
• Noise level is moderate to loud
