About the role

In this role, you are responsible for all repairs and ongoing maintenance of the facility, including all equipment and company vehicles that our associates operate daily, as well as maintaining the grounds and parking lot areas. You will maintain and order supplies/parts as needed while providing recommendations to repair and replace equipment to ensure proper functioning. You will conduct regular facility inspections and assist in developing a preventative maintenance schedule. This role works directly with all departments within the facility on any maintenance needs that may arise.

We have two areas of focus within our maintenance teams: building maintenance and equipment maintenance. The building maintenance team is responsible for repairing and ongoing maintenance of the facility, conducting regular inspections, and assisting in developing a preventative maintenance schedule. The equipment maintenance team repairs and maintains all equipment that associates operate daily, orders supplies/parts, and provides recommendations for repair or replacement.

Responsibilities

  • Provides diagnostics and recommendations to repair or replace poorly functioning equipment (15%)
  • Efficiently prioritizes repair schedule to ensure an uninterrupted production schedule (10%)
  • Ensures an adequate inventory of necessary spare parts and materials is maintained (10%)
  • Keeps management informed of areas activities and significant concerns; reports major problems (10%)
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and training to other Equipment Maintenance Mechanics (10%)
  • Manages installation of RF units and scan guns (10%)
  • Assists in developing a preventive maintenance schedule (10%)
  • Handles complex diagnostics and repairs, including electrical systems, hydraulic, and brake systems (15%)
  • Performs duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures (10%)
  • Performs other relevant job duties as required

Requirements

  • Certified Material Handling Engineer Mechanic or ASE Certification
  • 5+ years of on-the-job experience with electronics and mechanical equipment
  • Machining and fabrication experience

Skills

  • Excellent mechanical and electrical aptitudes, knowledge of electrical/electronic systems and hydraulics
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Oral and written communication skills to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Problem-solving skills for practical issues with limited standardization
  • Ability to build relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, customers, and outside contractors
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Good judgment, especially when direct supervision may not be immediately available

Work Environment

This is an onsite role requiring the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
  • Exposure to temperatures ranging from -20°F to 35°F in Perishable Operations and 37°F to 90°F in Grocery Operations
  • Repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures
  • Ability to work with hands and arms overhead and under equipment
  • Requires manual dexterity, coordination, and balance to work at ground level and in high places
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Pay

$32.00/hour

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
