Job Summary
Maintain all loads under dispatch authority to ensure safe and on-time service to customers, vendors, and distribution centers.
Job Responsibilities
- Interact cooperatively and professionally with team members, supervisors, customers, and vendors, especially during challenging situations.
- Complete tasks and documentation neatly, accurately, and promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of all loads under dispatch authority, including status updates and communication with customers and vendors.
- Create and update daily dispatch schedules for drivers and equipment.
- Manage and update inbound and outbound orders in the dispatch program.
- Communicate with drivers about issues such as breakdowns, directions, and product delivery discrepancies.
- Ensure driver availability and maintain accurate equipment availability lists.
- Assist with obtaining accident and workers' compensation reports.
- Coordinate delivery and backhaul assignments to address changes and breakdowns.
- Interface with third-party providers to procure transportation services and monitor load progress.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and promote driver safety.
- Review and voucher all expenses and invoices for the department, resolving discrepancies with providers.
- Keep all files updated to meet payroll, financial, or federal retention requirements.
- Adapt to flexible schedules to meet customer needs, including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Experience and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- College coursework, continuing technical education, or comparable business experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of DOT Hours of Service.
- Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems preferred.
- Ability to read conventional and electronic maps.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Ability to assist in creating and maintaining fiscal budgets.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in computer usage, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and software applications.
- Ability to travel less than 10%.
Environmental Job Conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to sit for long periods and stand, walk, bend, or squat on an occasional basis.
Pay
