About the role

A non-licensed person trained to help patients by responding to intercom requests, obtaining needed services, and providing information.

Responsibilities

• Welcome visitors by greeting, answering inquiries, relaying calls, giving directions, and referring inquiries to nursing and physician staff.
• Maintain patient records by preparing folders, assigning patient numbers, and completing identification information.
• Manage unit operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes, and maintaining unit supplies inventory.
• Operate unit equipment by calling for repairs and complying with manufacturer's instructions and established procedures.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
• Support team continuity by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and needs.
• Assist in other areas of the hospital as requested by administration.

Requirements

• Previous experience or training by a designee of the DON.
• BLS certification preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Complete training practicum.

Qualifications

• Understands use and limitations of equipment.
• Familiar with standard methods and techniques.
• Possesses critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
• Capable of collecting, receiving, processing, testing, and storing specimens.
• Setup and adjust equipment.
• Basic knowledge of specialty areas in the hospital.
• Basic knowledge of regulations.

• Mental: Promote harmonious relationships, conduct self professionally, accept assignments within job description, recognize/respect chain of command, and maintain a stable psyche.
• Sensory: See clearly (corrective wear acceptable), hear adequately (hearing aid acceptable), and speak clearly for proper communication.
• Skills: Perform job skills, utilize safety precautions, protect and provide safety for the patient, and have command of manual dexterity.

Additional Job Duties

May be requested to assist in other areas of the hospital within your capabilities.

• Exposure to hazards such as bleach, disinfectant, blood-borne pathogens (such as HIV, Hepatitis, viruses, bacteria and resistant bacteria).
