Waitstaff
About the role
The Dining Room Wait Staff at Summit Vista is responsible for serving meals in a friendly, service-oriented manner. They ensure that service is delivered using proper procedures, monitor for help needed in other areas, and follow sanitation procedures during clean-up.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the residents and guests have an enjoyable meal with high quality service.
- Ensures the residents have an enjoyable meal with appealing plated food.
- Maintains dining and kitchen sanitation requirements.
- Communicates appropriately with supervisors and dining room staff and listens effectively.
- Greet and escort customers to their tables.
- Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g. about portions, ingredients or potential food allergies).
- Prepare tables by setting up linens, silverware and glasses.
- Inform customers about the day’s specials.
- Offer menu recommendations upon request.
- Up-sell additional products when appropriate.
- Take accurate food and drinks orders, using a POS ordering software, order slips or by memorization.
- Check customers’ IDs to ensure they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
- Communicate order details to the kitchen staff.
- Serve food and drink orders.
- Check dishes and kitchenware for cleanliness and presentation and report any problems.
- Arrange table settings and maintain a tidy dining area.
- Deliver checks and collect bill payments.
- Carry dirty plates, glasses and silverware to kitchen for cleaning.
- Meet with restaurant staff to review daily specials, changes on the menu and service specifications for reservations (e.g. parties).
- Follow all relevant health department regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service to guests.
Qualifications
- Ability to serve meals, understand guests’ special requests, and follow through with the service process in a friendly manner.
- High School Diploma or GED required, unless an active student.
- Experience in a kitchen/service environment preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Assist in the training of Waitstaff.
Languages Skills
English: highly proficient in both spoken and written English.
Licenses, Certificates, Registrations
ServSafe Certification required within 30 days of commencing employment.
Physical Demands/Work Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to lift or move 50 pounds with assistance; always use safety devices (carts, etc) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
