About the Role

Set up Valve Seat Inspection Systems, Two Point Gaging Systems (Manual Wrap), and other measuring equipment to specifications by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a quality product is released to Tenneco Powertrain customers.
• Participate in training to produce a quality product and use preventative measures to meet customer requirements and Tenneco Powertrain standards.
• Comply with legal and other requirements to avoid injury and/or ill health to themselves and others.
• Identify potential emergency situations, create a safe environment, and report all incidents to supervisor/manager.
• Adhere to the facility’s quality, environmental, health, and safety policies as identified by the Management Systems.
• Read routers, production schedules, and special instructions for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerance, and number of parts to be processed.
• Record information for inspection and production using various forms, logs, and computer systems.
• Set up equipment by selecting programs on VSI Vision Systems/Manual Wrap Stations, including specified tolerances/parameters.
• Verify equipment, including camera placement, focus, rail setting, probe settings, switches, control of pneumatic valve adjustments, feeds, and speeds, are in conformance to specification using established standards.
• Use air gauging, digital indicators, visual standards, and other inspection equipment as required.
• Monitor and set up equipment daily.
• Troubleshoot and perform appropriate maintenance of the equipment by observation and general cleaning (TPM’s).
• Analyze nonconforming parts (dimensional and visual) and report findings to supervisor/management.
• Work overtime to support manufacturing requirements, which may be mandated for this position.
• Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor/management.

Level 1: Must complete training, written, and practical assessment as Level 1 before moving into a Level 2 position.

Level 2: Can set up and operate VSI and VG packaging equipment. Must complete training, written, and practical assessment. Meets requirements to train operators.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED is preferred.
• Minimum of one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write correspondence pertaining to job-related maintenance or quality concerns.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of the metric system.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Highly motivated with the ability to work independently yet be an effective team player.
• Above average mechanical ability.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
• At times, required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Regularly required to walk and climb or balance.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Frequently exposed to extreme heat.
• Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• Hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel toe shoes are required.
