VP, Underwriting Manager
About the role
As a VP, Underwriting Manager, you'll be responsible for the leadership and management of a team of underwriters to achieve the Company’s production and quality goals. The ideal candidate must possess extensive conventional, government and jumbo lending experience with an in-depth knowledge of mortgage processes.
You'll manage the day-to-day as a hands on manager, prioritizing of assignments, and the ability to work with a large team of staff members. You'll be expected to understand the Bank's policies and procedures, and adhere to all laws, rules, regulatory and compliance regulations.
Key responsibilities include managing underwriters to ensure mortgage loans are underwritten following proper guidelines, ensuring team members are fully trained and current on company’s philosophy and policies/procedures, and conducting underwriting review process in a manner designed to minimize the company's risk.

- Ensure team members are fully trained and current on company’s philosophy and policies/procedures
- Manage and review day-to-day tasks escalated by team
- Conduct underwriting review process in a manner designed to minimize the company's risk while employing problem resolution techniques in approving loans
- Train, coach and supervise all underwriters to the application of all company overlays and agency requirements
- Evaluate the structure of the Underwriting team and plan for continuous improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with other departments
- Lead and develop a team: responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, training and development
Requirements
- 7+ years of related experience in Residential Mortgage Loan Underwriting or similar field
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
- Previous leadership experience required
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of residential mortgage industry in Correspondent or Retail Lending
- Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices
- Advanced knowledge of mortgage loan products, lending principles and regulatory compliance
- Extensive understanding of mortgage lending principles and underwriting guidelines, including FHA, VA, and conventional loans
- Intermediate to advanced experience in understanding and knowledge of technology that supports mortgage banking, Encompass (LOS) and core systems and MS Office products
- Advanced speaking and writing communication skills
- DE, SAR or equivalent certification preferred
