About the Role
MPA (formerly MyPlanAdvocate) is a fast-growing Medicare distribution platform serving licensed professionals, agencies, and beneficiaries nationwide. Now expanding into Life and ancillary products, with AI-driven lead scoring and real-time performance routing built in-house. The VP of Marketing owns MPA's end-to-end paid acquisition strategy and is directly accountable for the Acquire business's gross margin performance and a P&L-owning leadership role at the center of how MPA connects consumers with the right licensed professional at the right time.
Responsibilities
- Acquisition Strategy and Channel Ownership
- Own the end-to-end strategy for all paid acquisition channels, including Paid Search, Social, Native, and Affiliate media.
- Translate company-level targets into clear channel-level goals and execution plans tied to gross margin, efficiency, volume, and quality.
- Define the role each channel plays within the portfolio and dynamically reallocate spend based on performance, demand signals, and forecast changes.
- Build and maintain a structured testing roadmap across bidding, targeting, creative, landing pages, and conversion flows.
- Financial Management and Gross Margin Accountability
- Own the Acquire business P&L performance and be directly accountable for delivering the 2026 gross margin target of $5.5 million.
- Establish disciplined forecasting, pacing, and budget management processes with daily and weekly performance monitoring.
- Identify variance drivers early and implement corrective actions to protect margin and forecast integrity.
- Partner with Finance and executive leadership to align on forecasts, explain performance outcomes, and maintain tight accountability to plan.
- Media Buying Excellence and Operational Execution
- Set best practices and operating standards for media buying across platforms, including campaign structure, bid management, QA, and optimization cadence.
- Ensure execution is fast, disciplined, and repeatable through documented playbooks, performance reviews, and escalation frameworks.
- Lead response plans for platform changes, attribution shifts, policy updates, or performance volatility.
- Establish a consistent weekly operating cadence for optimization reviews, performance readouts, and executive communication.
- Measurement, Attribution, and Performance Analytics
- Own measurement strategy end to end, including attribution approach, conversion definitions, and reporting fidelity.
- Partner with Analytics and Technology to improve signal quality, tracking reliability, and decision-grade dashboards.
- Develop leading indicators that predict gross margin outcomes and enable proactive decision-making.
- Ensure performance narratives are clear, trusted, and actionable across stakeholders.
- Affiliate Channel Ownership and Media Partnerships
- Own the affiliate channel as a media-buying function, including sourcing, onboarding, managing, and scaling affiliate traffic partners.
- Set strategy, standards, and performance expectations for affiliate media partners, including pricing models, volume pacing, quality thresholds, and margin targets.
- Establish affiliate governance frameworks covering compliance, quality control, and partner risk management.
- Maintain a clear distinction between affiliate traffic partners (media supply) and buyer-side partners, ensuring affiliate strategy supports downstream monetization and profitability.
- Team Leadership and Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of media buyers through clear goal-setting, performance management, and career development.
- Recruit and onboard additional talent as needed to support growth while continuously raising the bar on capability and execution quality.
- Build a high-accountability culture grounded in ownership, speed, and measurable outcomes.
- Model and reinforce the "Raise the Bar, Always" core value through leadership behavior and expectations.
- Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner closely with Account Management and Business Development to align media buying strategy with buyer demand, pricing dynamics, capacity constraints, and revenue opportunities.
- Collaborate with Product and Analytics to improve conversion flows, attribution accuracy, and signal quality that inform media allocation decisions.
- Coordinate with Finance on forecasting, budget management, pacing, and gross margin accountability.
- Work with Compliance to ensure all media buying and affiliate traffic meets regulatory, contractual, and platform standards.
- Maintain tight feedback loops with revenue teams to ensure acquisition supply aligns with buyer performance, retention outcomes, and overall company profitability.
Requirements
- 8+ years in performance marketing/media buying, including 3+ years leading channel strategy across Paid Search, Social, Native, and Affiliate.
- Direct P&L or gross margin ownership at comparable scale (multi-million dollar), with accountability for the number, not just influence over it.
- Hands-on ownership of an affiliate channel as a media-buying function: sourcing, onboarding, scaling partners, and setting pricing, quality, and governance standards.
- Strong grasp of attribution, conversion definitions, and reporting fidelity, including building leading indicators that predict margin outcomes.
- Proven people leadership: hiring, coaching, and performance-managing a media buying team.
- Cross-functional credibility with Finance, Compliance, Product, and Sales to align competing priorities.
- Experience operating in a regulated insurance environment, ideally spanning multiple product lines and regulators (e.g., CMS for Medicare, state DOI for Life/ancillary); MPA's platform now spans both.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading a team through platform policy or attribution shifts (e.g., iOS privacy changes, Google policy updates).
- Background in a multi-product licensed-distribution business where one acquisition engine feeds more than one regulated product line.
- Familiarity with AI-driven martech (lead scoring, real-time routing) from the marketing or product side.
Telecommuting Requirements
- Ability to keep all company-sensitive data secure.
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privately without disruption.
- Must live in a location that can receive a high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.
