Responsibilities & Expectations
The Vice President of Engineering – Power Management Division is responsible for leading, transforming, and scaling the engineering organization to support growth in power systems, engineered services, and complex system integration. This leader must be a strategic and commercial engineering leader capable of creating scalable engineering capabilities and integrating engineering processes, tools, and standards across disparate shops and regions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Functional Transformation
- Define and execute the Power Management engineering strategy aligned with enterprise growth objectives
- Lead transformation from decentralized to centrally governed engineering model with standardized processes, tools, and technical authority
- Establish a scalable enterprise engineering capability for integrated solutions
- Develop a multi-year roadmap for engineering standardization, modularization, and reuse across sites
- Partner with executive leadership to align engineering investments with market opportunities
Commercial & Market Enablement
- Define standard engineering inputs, design templates, and cost drivers to enable consistent estimating by commercial teams
- Ensure technical consistency and accuracy of inputs into estimating and pricing processes (owned by Commercial)
- Establish clear interfaces between Engineering and Commercial for bid support and solution development
- Engage directly with strategic customers as the technical authority on complex solutions
- Enable IPS to capture larger, system-level projects ($500K–$10M+) through repeatable engineering architectures and integration capabilities
- Partner with commercial teams to translate customer needs into standardized, scalable engineering solutions
- Strengthen IPS’s differentiation as an engineering-led solutions provider
Technical Leadership & Domain Expertise
- Provide executive-level functional and technical leadership across:
- MV and HV power distribution systems
- Switchgear, switchboards, breakers, and protection systems
- MCCs and motor systems
- Backup and critical power infrastructure
- Ensure engineering rigor in:
- Design standards
- Technical specifications
- Application engineering
- Maintain compliance with applicable codes and standards (IEEE, NFPA, NEC, NETA, UL)
Product Development & Innovation
- Partner with Product Management to define and launch new offerings
- Lead development of standardized and modular system solutions (e.g., power skids, e-houses, MCC/VFD packages, switchgear, and switchboards)
- Drive innovation initiatives focused on:
- Cost optimization and value engineering
- Performance and reliability improvements
- Integration of digital technologies (monitoring, automation, energy storage)
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies into IPS solutions portfolio
Functional Engineering Excellence
- Build and scale a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering organization
- Define organizational structure to support:
- Systems and applications engineering
- Project engineering and execution
- Operations and local technical support
- Scale engineering across a fragmented footprint
- Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent
- Establish training programs, technical standards, and career progression paths
- Establish operating cadence to drive alignment across engineering teams
- Support talent development and performance management
- Represent IPS in technical forums and industry bodies
- Implement metrics and KPIs for engineering performance and continuous improvement
- Ensure alignment between central engineering governance and regional execution
- Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements
- Support enterprise initiatives in AI, data strategy, and knowledge management
- Protect and leverage intellectual property
Project Execution & Delivery Excellence
- Ensure delivery with focus on:
- Technical quality and compliance
- On-time delivery
- Margin integrity (through design efficiency, not pricing ownership)
- Reduce cycle time through:
- Standardization and modular design
- Design reuse and libraries
- Improved engineering workflows and tools
- Lead integration of engineering into full lifecycle delivery (design → build → commission → service)
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required); Master’s preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 15+ years of progressive experience in power systems engineering and leadership roles
- Demonstrated success building and scaling engineering teams from early-stage to mature organizations and matrixed organizations
- Proven experience with:
- UL891 and UL1558 design, applications, and certification
- Power distribution systems and system integration
- HV/MV Transformers
- Familiarity with integrated control systems, automation, and digital platforms
Leadership & Business Acumen
- Proven ability to drive growth through engineered products, services, and solutions
- Strong commercial mindset with experience supporting sales, proposals, and customer engagement
- Demonstrated success leading matrixed organizations with direct and indirect teams
- Experience aligning engineering with multi-business units and localized structures
- Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and execution levels
- Builder with a track record of creating teams and capabilities from scratch
- Commercially aware engineer who enables revenue without owning pricing/estimating
