VP, Information Technology & Security
About the role
Boingo is seeking a senior technology leader to unify corporate IT operations and Information Security under one executive function within Engineering. This role is crucial for a company that operates secure, high-performance networks in various venues and requires a robust technology foundation to support its mission.
Responsibilities
- Own the corporate technology stack, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Google Workspace, endpoint management, SaaS provisioning, and corporate network and access services.
- Drive automation of identity, access, device lifecycle, and workforce onboarding/offboarding in partnership with HR, Legal, and Engineering.
- Manage vendor relationships, licensing, and contracts for corporate IT and security tooling.
- Provide executive leadership over Information Security, including GRC and Cybersecurity functions.
- Maintain alignment with NIST, SOC 2, and applicable regulatory and contractual obligations.
- Partner with Legal, HR, Finance, and Engineering on policy development, vendor security, incident response, and risk acceptance.
- Ensure security architecture, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, logging, monitoring, and endpoint security programs operate effectively across the enterprise.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Network Operations to support the development and delivery of Boingo's venue security offering.
- Support go-to-market, customer, and operational readiness for venue security products and services.
- Serve as a senior security voice in cross-functional discussions involving network architecture, product roadmap, deployment, and customer support.
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing leadership team across IT and Security.
- Define annual IT & Security strategy, roadmap, and budget in alignment with Engineering and company objectives.
- Unify IT operations and security into a single control plane for identity, devices, and access.
- Serve as escalation point for major incidents, audit findings, control gaps, and operational outages.
- Represent IT & Security in executive forums, audit activities, customer security reviews, and cross-functional governance.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in information technology, information security, or infrastructure leadership, with 8+ years in people management and 5+ years at director level or above.
- Proven success leading both IT operations and security, and GRC functions, or equivalently large infrastructure and compliance organizations.
- Deep working knowledge of NIST cybersecurity frameworks, GRC program operation, and SOC 2 audit readiness.
- Hands-on executive experience operating a multi-platform enterprise, including: Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and Conditional Access; Google Workspace and Google Admin; mixed Mac and Windows endpoint environments (Jamf, Intune, or equivalent MDM); corporate networking, VPN, Zero Trust access, and SaaS identity integration.
- Experience applying security controls and governance in complex network or multi-site operational environments; experience in telecommunications, venue, or service-provider environments strongly preferred.
- Experience partnering with product, engineering, and network teams to deliver secure services or security-enabled offerings to customers.
- Experience with SIEM, EDR, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, and GRC platforms (e.g., ZenGRC or equivalent).
- Demonstrated ability to partner with Engineering on secure architecture, cloud platform security, and remediation of audit or scan findings.
- Strong executive communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership, auditors, customers, and business stakeholders.
- Proven ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organizational structure.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience.
- PREFERRED: Master's degree.
- CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, or equivalent certifications.
- Familiarity with ISO 27001, PCI DSS, CCPA, GDPR, or customer-driven security frameworks.
- Experience supporting security in DAS, Wi-Fi, private network, or carrier, venue network environments.
- Experience leading Google Workspace migration or role-based collaboration platform segmentation.
- Experience supporting security in federal, DoD, transit, aviation, or other highly regulated venue customers.
