Position Summary

The position of VP Finance is established to manage all aspects, duties and responsibilities of the management financial analysis functions and maintain quality service standards set by the organization. This includes the effective management of the following areas: Leadership, coaching and development of Financial Analysis TeamAnnual Budget and Financial ForecastingFinancial AnalysisAudit and Exam SupportCurrent Expected Credit Loss (CECL)Financial Database ManagementOrganizational and Product Profitability AnalysisSpecial Projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS Degree with emphasis in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
  • CFA, CPA or MBA is a plus.
  • 10 years of experience in financial management/accounting and demonstrated track record of success in all areas of responsibility.
  • Advanced level spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation software skills required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of financial products and services, general ledger usage, and database management are required.
  • Demonstrated success in planning, organizing, leading and oversight of people and activities.

Key Relationships

  • Work closely with Senior Management Team and other departments on a continual basis, gain a solid understanding of their business models and practices, and possess an ability to provide financial analysis and recommendations to the team as requested and on a proactive basis.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Management and Leadership

  • Responsible for the planning, direction and development of all staff members.
  • Responsible for the employment, coaching, training, motivation, evaluation and discipline of all staff members.
  • Provide managerial oversight of the activities for areas of responsibility, including assigned staff and functional deliverables of the team.
  • Create a positive work environment conducive to trust and transparency.
  • Responsible for the performance management of staff, to include daily feedback, coaching and mentoring; administration of appraisals that are timely and meaningful.
  • Identify and address deficiencies constructively.
  • Continually support, encourage and motivate team members toward ongoing growth and development.
  • Consult with Human Resources (HR) on issues outside of the normal scope of performance or behavior.
  • Report all issues of safety or legal consequence immediately and surface undesirable patterns as they are discovered.
  • Partner with HR on all employment decisions, and refer requests for changes in terms or scheduling to the HR department.
  • Monitor approved schedules, review and approve timesheets of staff, and ensure all expenses are reported as per company policy.
  • Schedule and provide staff the opportunity for meal and rest breaks, while ensuring operational coverage is maintained.

Annual Budget And Financial Forecasting

  • Lead, develop and administer all aspects of the preparation of the annual budgeting process.
  • Provide financial support, analysis, and counsel to departments throughout the budget cycle.
  • Work closely with key management team members to prepare and develop financial forecast and risk analyses as needed for the senior management.
  • Prepare and develop appropriate input methods and materials that will allow the accurate collection, consolidation and maintenance of budget data. This includes input for all balance sheet and income statement items.
  • Develop and maintain timely integration between the budget consolidation and ALM related models.
  • Prepare appropriate senior management and Board of Directors review materials for the annual budget.

Financial Analysis

  • Perform financial modeling, forecasting, and reporting of pertinent and relevant financial analyses projects that will enhance the senior management team’s understanding of financial performance.
  • Oversee the development and preparation of all ALCO and Pricing Committee materials.
  • Analyze the profitability of selected products and organizational units, as well as major credit union capital expenditures.
  • Establish policies for these analyses processes.
  • Analyze and communicate all credit union peer group related data and information.

Audit Support

  • Act as key liaison for annual financial statement audit, NCUA exam, internal audits, and model validations.
  • In collaboration with the CFO and SVP Finance, work directly with auditors, as needed, to address inquiries in a timely manner.

Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL)

  • Manage the CECL model, including calculation, review, and analysis of monthly results.
  • Prepare monthly CECL Committee meeting materials, including calculation results, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting, and ongoing model enhancements.
  • Process “what-if” scenarios in CECL software to demonstrate to management alternative outcomes with differing assumptions.

Financial Database Management

  • Design and develop financial reports utilizing the organization’s SQL databases to provide timely Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to management.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of all financial data used for management reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, ALM simulation and cost accounting.

Organizational And Product Profitability Analysis

  • Responsible for the development, maintenance and administration of organizational and product profitability for the credit union.
  • Ensure the control and integrity of the profitability models.
  • Develop product profitability policies in conjunction with senior management and other pertinent staff members.
  • Provide key insights to other departments regarding product profitability and work closely with them to develop and recommend optimal solutions.

Special Projects

  • Working closely with other key team members, actively lead and/or participate in numerous project teams.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools or controls.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Monday-Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm Saturday-Sunday: OFF Full time - 40 hours/week
