About the Role

The American Heart Association has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President, Development, in our Northern New England market, preferably based in Southern Maine (Portland or surrounding area). In this role, you will report to our Executive Director. As a player/coach, you help lead the market's development team, along with managing the Maine Go Red for Women campaign and your own portfolio of donors and sponsors. Responsibilities include ensuring that market revenue goals are achieved through engaging volunteers and staff in mission-based fundraising campaigns.

This position will be home-office-based, with external-facing engagement within the Northern New England market. The VP of Development will manage Fundraising Development Directors, mentoring them to achieve their fundraising goals and objectives, while building a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships with corporate and community leaders to improve fundraising efforts. They will engage volunteers in opportunities to apply their passion and expertise to further the organization's mission in a substantial way.

Responsibilities

  • Overall achievement of the $2 million revenue goal for the Northern New England market.
  • Directly leading the development/fundraising campaigns and staff teams to achieve bold revenue targets through strategic campaign development and effective volunteer and staff management.
  • Identify, recruit, orient, engage, and develop medical and non-medical volunteer partners and leadership, ensuring the volunteer leadership represents and provides the community influence and personal affluence to champion the fundraising success of all campaigns through their personal and corporate giving and securing the involvement and giving of others.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director and VP, Community Impact, responsible for supporting the Board priorities and serving as a resource and contact for Board volunteers.
  • Growing overall market revenue by implementing and setting Best Practices; driving new business recruitment and achieving campaign growth through the cultivation, stewardship, renewal, and acquisition of companies and donors.
  • Model the American Heart Association's leadership proficiencies and values in advancing the American Heart Association's mission and achievement of revenue and health impact goals.
  • Promote collaboration with development and health strategies staff around revenue and mission-related goals.
  • Seek out opportunities to more deeply engage event donors through Major Gifts opportunities.
  • Build powerful relationships with corporate and business leaders and senior-level volunteers.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training, and writing clear, concise narrative reports and evaluations.
  • Ability to negotiate, interact, and connect with customers, and to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts, and information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least three years of relevant experience, preferably in a development position in a similar non-profit organization.
  • At least one year of experience in employee management, preferably in development or fundraising staff.
  • Experience leading and cultivating high-level leaders at the C-suite level preferred.
  • Direct knowledge of special event fundraising tactics is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience securing corporate donations by participating in and leading top-level sponsorship asks.
  • Experience cultivating major donors, securing sponsorships, and recruiting new companies and donors.
  • Must be willing to work outside standard hours in support of events, sponsors, and volunteers, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift and/or move large objects (such as boxes) with the expectation that heavier items would be broken down into smaller components, or requesting additional assistance may be required before lifting and/or moving.
  • Be willing and able to travel daily to meetings and events throughout the market (Maine, Central Massachusetts, and New Hampshire), with occasional overnight travel.

Pay

The expected pay range will be $72,960 to $95,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. This position is incentive-eligible based on achieving certain targets.

Schedule

This is a full-time position. Must be willing to work outside standard hours in support of events, sponsors, and volunteers, including evenings and weekends as needed. Daily travel to meetings and events throughout the market (Maine, Central Massachusetts, and New Hampshire) is required, with occasional overnight travel.
