VP, Development
About the role
Join our movement to accelerate progress against today’s biggest health challenges. As Vice President, Development in our Northern New England market (preferably based in Southern Maine—Portland or surrounding area), you will report to the Executive Director. In this player/coach role, you will help lead the market’s development team, manage the Maine Go Red for Women campaign, and oversee your own portfolio of donors and sponsors. This position is home-office-based with external-facing engagement throughout the Northern New England market.
Responsibilities
- Achieve the $2 million revenue goal for the Northern New England market.
- Directly lead development and fundraising campaigns, guiding staff teams to meet bold revenue targets through strategic campaign development and effective volunteer and staff management.
- Identify, recruit, orient, engage, and develop medical and non-medical volunteer partners and leadership, ensuring representation of community influence and personal affluence to champion fundraising success.
- Support Board priorities and serve as a resource for Board volunteers in partnership with the Executive Director and VP, Community Impact.
- Grow overall market revenue by implementing best practices, driving new business recruitment, and achieving campaign growth through cultivation, stewardship, renewal, and acquisition of companies and donors.
- Model the American Heart Association’s leadership proficiencies and values to advance the mission and achieve revenue and health impact goals.
- Promote collaboration with development and health strategies staff around revenue and mission-related goals.
- Seek opportunities to engage event donors through Major Gifts opportunities.
- Build powerful relationships with corporate and business leaders and senior-level volunteers.
- Demonstrate outstanding written and oral communication skills, including large and small group presentations, facilitation, training, and writing clear, concise reports.
- Negotiate, interact, and connect with customers to exchange ideas, facts, and information effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- At least three years of relevant experience, preferably in a development position within a similar non-profit organization.
- At least one year of experience managing employees, preferably in development or fundraising.
- Experience leading and cultivating high-level leaders at the C-suite level preferred.
- Direct knowledge of special event fundraising tactics preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience securing corporate donations and leading top-level sponsorship asks.
- Experience cultivating major donors, securing sponsorships, and recruiting new companies and donors.
- Willingness to work outside standard hours, including evenings and weekends, to support events, sponsors, and volunteers.
- Ability to lift and/or move large objects (e.g., boxes), with heavier items broken down or assistance requested as needed.
- Willingness and ability to travel daily to meetings and events throughout the market (Maine, Central Massachusetts, and New Hampshire), with occasional overnight travel.
Pay
The expected pay range is $72,960 to $95,000. Pay is commensurate with experience, and geographic differentials may apply. This position is incentive-eligible, with the potential to earn up to 25% of base pay based on achieving revenue targets.
