VP, Data Products & Solutions
At Compass, our mission is to help everyone find their place in the world. Founded in 2012, we’re revolutionizing the real estate industry with an end‑to‑end platform that empowers residential real‑estate agents to deliver exceptional service to seller and buyer clients.
About the Role
This is not a maintenance role. It is an innovator’s mandate. We are looking for a Vice President of Data Products & Solutions to lead—and own—one of the most consequential transformations in real estate: converting Compass International Holdings’ unmatched proprietary data estate into a dual‑capability product engine that powers the enterprise from the inside and generates commercial revenue from the outside.
You and your team will own the full product vision, strategy, and P&L across two distinct portfolios:
- Internal Enablement – tools that fuel FP&A, recruiting, brokerage operations, and agent productivity.
- External Commercial Products – monetized data pipelines via API for institutional buyers and hedge funds, proprietary AI training datasets, and authoritative economic research models.
The mandate is to deliver world‑class product experiences that agents cannot live without, and convert that adoption into measurable EBITDA contribution while building external revenue streams that make our data estate a standalone commercial asset.
What You’ll Own
- Develop and champion a compelling product vision that creates organizational clarity, generates energy, and accelerates value delivery across every team you lead.
- Drive dual‑portfolio P&L and monetization: high‑adoption internal tools that reduce operational cost and external B2B API pipelines that generate direct revenue.
- Instill a “Data as a Product” operating model where value creation, unit economics, and cost rationalization are built into every solution before engineering begins.
- Set an uncompromising standard for data visualization, turning complex, high‑volume datasets into clean, self‑explanatory visual experiences.
- Maintain an unconditional firewall around individual agent and client data while leveraging aggregate platform intelligence for external products and research.
- Partner with C‑suite leadership, translating complex data capabilities into business strategy and representing the data product organization at the highest levels.
- Lead internal marketing of your team’s work, making value creation visible, understood, and celebrated across the enterprise.
- Recruit, develop, and lead a world‑class team of product managers and product leaders, modeling Compass’s entrepreneurship principles.
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years in Product Management, with at least 3 years in a VP or executive role leading a data product organization.
- Proven track record of converting a data org, analytics team, or technical cost center into a direct revenue driver.
- Value‑engineering mindset: design for financial outcomes, unit economics, and operational ROI from the first whiteboard session.
- Demonstrated mastery of visual storytelling with a portfolio of world‑class data visualizations.
- Entrepreneurial P&L experience across both internal productivity platforms and external commercial products (API pipelines, AI training datasets, monetized research).
- Deep understanding of data ethics and agent trust; ability to build commercial value while maintaining an absolute firewall around individual data.
- Fluency in modern data‑stack architecture (Databricks, BigQuery, Kafka, dbt, API design) sufficient to earn engineering partners’ trust.
- Executive presence and storytelling ability to brief boards, pitch institutional buyers, and demo visual features to top‑producing agents.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative field; MBA a plus but not required.
What Success Looks Like
- 30 Days – Complete a full audit of data assets, infrastructure costs, UI/UX quality, and product surfaces across internal workflows and external monetization channels.
- 90 Days – Publish a unified Data Product Strategy & EBITDA Impact Roadmap aligned with Finance and Engineering leadership; launch KPI frameworks measuring adoption and revenue impact.
- 180 Days – Deploy modernized market‑intelligence tools to agents; launch first external API channels for institutional buyers (live or pilot); activate lead‑attribution dashboards; reduce infrastructure cost‑per‑query.
- 1 Year – Data Products organization is a named contributor to positive enterprise EBITDA; 70%+ of active agents use intelligence features in pricing and listing strategy; Compass market reports become a primary source for major media; external data products generate direct commercial revenue, validating the data estate as a standalone asset.
