Volunteer: WaterWorks Annual Report & Fundraising Toolkit
About the Opportunity
WaterWorks is seeking a volunteer designer to create a professionally designed annual report that serves as both an organizational report and a fundraising tool. This publication will tell the story of WaterWorks through compelling photography, impact statistics, and stories from the past year, inspiring current and prospective donors to invest in the mission.
Deliverables
-
A completed 2026 Annual Report (Priority)
- Professionally designed and print-ready
- Created in Canva so staff can easily update and maintain it in future years
- Completed in time for professional printing prior to the Annual Meeting on October 29
- Designed using photos, stories, statistics, and content provided by WaterWorks
- Suitable for both print and digital distribution
-
Reusable Annual Report Templates
Following completion of the 2026 report, develop additional reusable page templates for future annual reports, including:
- Cover page
- Table of contents
- Program highlights
- Feature story pages
- Full-page photo spreads
- Impact statistics/"By the Numbers"
- Financial snapshot
- Donor recognition
- Call-to-action or giving page
- Other layouts the volunteer recommends
These templates do not need to be completed before the Annual Meeting and can be finalized after the 2026 report is delivered.
-
Annual Report Style Guide
A brief style guide outlining typography, spacing, page hierarchy, photo usage, graphic elements, and best practices to maintain a consistent, professional appearance in future reports.
-
Extended Color Palette
Guidance on a complementary color palette to incorporate throughout the annual report and future publications, including supporting colors, color pairings, and appropriate usage to enhance visual engagement while maintaining brand identity.
Resources Provided
WaterWorks will provide:
- All written content
- Photography
- Organizational information and impact statistics
- Financial information
- Existing logos and branding assets
- Access to the Canva workspace
- Examples of annual reports for inspiration
The volunteer’s expertise and creative recommendations on layout, storytelling, and data visualization are welcome. While the report will be built in Canva for sustainability, the goal is a publication that feels professionally designed—not like a standard Canva template.
Impact
The completed report will be distributed at the Annual Meeting on October 29 and shared with donors, grant funders, community partners, and supporters to demonstrate impact and communicate the vision for WaterWorks’ future. Over the past few years, WaterWorks has transformed into a community environmental learning lab with a clear identity and ambitious vision. This annual report will serve as a key fundraising and stewardship tool, capturing momentum and inspiring investment in the organization’s growth.
By volunteering for this project, you will help create a resource that strengthens donor relationships and supports the expansion of hands-on environmental education in the community for years to come.
Project Support
WaterWorks is committed to making this project organized and collaborative. The Director will serve as the primary point of contact, available to answer questions, provide feedback, and review drafts to keep the project on track. All content and revisions will be provided in time to finalize the report before the Annual Meeting on October 29.
Mission
WaterWorks’ mission is to inspire and educate the community by fostering curiosity and a deep appreciation for nature through hands-on environmental science.
