Overview
The Climate House seeks a designer to help develop the Trojan Cow, a small interactive listening sculpture as part of the Forest Encounters art x culture project. The Trojan Cow explores commodity systems connecting cattle, land use, forests, and deforestation through a compact sculptural object.
Responsibilities
- Translate artistic and sonic concepts into a coherent physical object
- Develop a strong visual and technical concept for fabrication
- Explore the sculpture’s scale, proportions, materials, construction, sustainability, interaction, internal components, and practical fabrication requirements
- Integrate the proximity-triggered sound system and related components into the physical form while maintaining artistic character
- Provide basic dimensional drawings or views to communicate scale, proportions, and construction
- Recommend appropriate sustainable materials and fabrication approaches
- Preliminarily consider how the proximity-triggered sound system and related components could be integrated into the object
- Think about assembly, stability, access to internal components, transportation, and installation
- Identify materials, major components, fabrication processes, and technical questions requiring resolution during prototyping
- Provide editable 3D/CAD files or other design files to support subsequent fabrication
Requirements
- Experience in 3D visualization, physical/product design, spatial design, fabrication, engineering, or material studies
- Experience with material studies or sustainable materials is particularly valuable
- The sculpture should remain relatively small, materially thoughtful, and feasible to fabricate and transport
Qualifications
- Ability to think beyond simply producing a beautiful rendering
- Strong visual and technical concept for fabrication
- Understanding of sustainable materials and fabrication approaches
- Basic knowledge of 3D modeling and CAD software
Skills
- Design and fabrication skills
- Experience with material studies or sustainable materials
- Understanding of sustainable materials and fabrication approaches
