Volunteer Operations Intern - Fall 2026

About the role

The Harris County – Houston Sports Authority is seeking students looking to excel in the sports industry. Our Volunteer Operations Interns have an opportunity to coordinate, manage, and engage with current and potential volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Represent HCHSA during assigned events and functions as needed
• Volunteer recruitment and outreach
• Run and analyze reports in the volunteer system
• Maintain volunteer inquiries and detailed records within online systems
• Initiate group involvement by recruiting, assisting with registration, and answering program related questions
• On-site event support with operations team to include managing volunteers, set-up, & tear-down
• Strategize with marketing department on volunteer recruitment and volunteer social media content
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Eligible candidates must be at least Junior level college/university student or graduate student enrolled as a full-time college/university student and must be able to receive academic credit for this internship
• Applicant must be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week
• During event dates, must be available to work long hours including holidays, weekends, and evenings if necessary
• Lift up to 45 pounds repeatedly, work outdoors and stand for long periods of time
• Valid driver’s license (be prepared to use personal vehicle to travel to and from site all of which will be within Harris County)

Compensation

Unpaid volunteer position, not eligible for HCHSA employee benefits; academic credit only
