About the role

Play Like a Girl is a small, grassroots nonprofit scaling nationally. We use sport, mentorship, and hands-on STEM career exploration to help middle school girls build confidence, belonging, and workforce readiness. As we grow, our website must speak clearly to corporate sponsors, monthly donors, schools, mentors, volunteers, families, and community leaders without losing the warmth and authenticity of our brand. Our highest priorities are positioning Play Like a Girl as a compelling corporate partner and growing the We Got You Crew, our monthly giving community.

We’ve developed a 15-page website plan, brand guidelines, audience profiles, messaging concepts, and AI-assisted draft copy. However, the drafts need an experienced nonprofit copywriter to strengthen the narrative, establish a consistent message hierarchy, and make the highest-priority pages publication-ready. This project will provide a durable messaging foundation that staff, volunteers, and future consultants can apply as we expand nationally.

Responsibilities

  • Review our existing messaging materials and drafts for all 15 planned website pages.
  • Create a concise messaging guide that includes our positioning, core narrative, audience value propositions, proof points, voice principles, and calls to action.
  • Refine and finalize copy for five priority website pages selected during the kickoff meeting, including headlines, subheads, body copy, calls to action, form language, SEO page titles, and meta descriptions.
  • Create page-specific content briefs and recommendations for the remaining 10 pages so another writer can complete them consistently.
  • Develop a reusable library of calls to action and short website messaging.
  • Participate in one kickoff meeting, one midpoint review, and one final handoff meeting.
  • Complete up to two consolidated revision rounds.

Qualifications

We’re looking for an experienced nonprofit copywriter who can strengthen our narrative and establish a consistent message hierarchy.

About Play Like a Girl

Mission: Play Like a Girl is a national 501(c)3 charitable organization founded in 2004. Our mission is to ensure that every girl reaches her full potential by providing girls ages 9-13 an opportunity—and in many cases, their only chance—to participate in sport and physical activity. We offer programs and resources designed to transform girls’ motivation into an “I am unstoppable” attitude. It is our goal to help girls everywhere find the courage to do things beyond the field of play that they never thought possible. We believe that girls given the opportunity to play on a team become women who have the confidence to stand on their own.

What we’ll provide

  • The 15-page inventory and existing drafts.
  • Brand guidelines, program information, and audience profiles.
  • Examples of messaging we want to preserve.

Success metrics

Play Like a Girl will end the project with a clear messaging system, five publication-ready priority pages, and a practical roadmap for completing the remaining website copy.
