Volunteer Manager

One Federal Solution (OFS) is seeking an experienced Volunteer Manager to support our Federal Government client in New London, Connecticut. The Volunteer Manager will oversee the recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, engagement, and retention of volunteers supporting a public-facing institutional environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in volunteer management, community outreach, nonprofit programming, or program coordination and enjoy building relationships and creating an engaging volunteer experience. Key Responsibilities Recruit volunteers for public-facing, educational, and administrative support functionsInterview prospective volunteers and coordinate required onboarding and vetting activitiesDevelop and deliver volunteer orientations and trainingMatch volunteer skills and interests with organizational and operational needsDevelop and maintain volunteer shift schedules to ensure appropriate coverageMaintain accurate databases and records of volunteer participation and hoursServe as a primary point of contact and advocate for the volunteer communityDevelop volunteer communications, newsletters, web updates, and notificationsCoordinate volunteer appreciation activities, recognition programs, and eventsCollaborate with education personnel to prepare volunteers and docents to support educational programmingSupport volunteer retention, engagement, conflict resolution, and performance managementBuild relationships within the community to support volunteer recruitment and engagement Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, Communications, Museum Studies, or a related fieldTwo (2) to four (4) years of experience in volunteer management, community outreach, or program coordination, preferably within a nonprofit or cultural settingExperience developing or implementing volunteer recruitment strategiesExperience training individuals who interact with the public or support organizational programsExperience maintaining volunteer management or similar tracking databasesUnderstanding of the legal distinctions between volunteer and employee laborStrong public speaking, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to work effectively with individuals across different backgrounds and generationsStrong conflict-resolution and relationship-management skillsMust be able to successfully complete required Federal background and suitability screening Highly Desired Qualifications Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA)Experience working within a nonprofit, museum, cultural institution, or public attractionExperience developing volunteer recognition and retention initiatives This position is tied to a future business opportunity.
