Shift: 8-hour day shifts | Full time, 40 hours per week
About the role
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the volunteer services. Recruit, train, mentor, and recognize a dedicated group of volunteers who share a passion for serving others. Contribute to a holistic, patient-centered hospice care approach as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Interview potential volunteers and ensure adequate volunteer coverage and scheduling for departments
- Coordinate volunteer project requests and recognition events, including facilitating and documenting the regional recognition program
- Manage the volunteer database and assist with onboarding, orientation, and exit processes
- Provide clerical support: take minutes, collect nominees, generate reports and spreadsheets, schedule meetings/events, distribute prizes, and notify winners
- Ensure volunteers remain compliant with policies and standards through Annual Retraining Education
- Facilitate events and maintain communications throughout the organization based on regional location
- Adapt and create new job descriptions for volunteer roles and collaborate with medical staff
- Create "Letters of Recommendation" for college students and write quarterly/yearly impact statements (reports on volunteer hours, monetary impact, workforce development, etc.)
- Maintain organized lists of volunteers who advance to medical school, graduate school, internships, or employment
- Manage conflict and act as a liaison between volunteers and staff
- Supervise, plan, and direct the scope of the Volunteer Services program to augment regular staff services
- Serve as a consultant to other system volunteer programs
- Assist with community fundraising and awareness initiatives
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Post-secondary education (preferred)
- Two years of experience in volunteer work, public relations, community service, or promotional work
- Leadership capabilities and strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proper English usage, grammar, punctuation, and style
- Ability to use reference materials effectively
- Self-directed with a high level of accountability and minimal supervision required
- Ability to multi-task and function as a resource for employees
- Strong customer service, public relations, training, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in using office equipment, including personal computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, and multi-line telephone systems
- Typing skills at 50 words per minute (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license may be required depending on location
