Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
- Experience in program development, management, and clinical supervision preferred.
- Ability to relate to terminally ill patients/families and their particular problems.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, telephone, documentation, and communication skills.
- Must possess the disposition and personality to work harmoniously with a wide variety of people and all levels of staff and interact professionally as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Job Duties
- Recruit volunteers to perform administrative, direct patient care or pet therapy.
- Responsible for orientation and ongoing training and supervision of volunteers consistent with the duties and functions to be performed.
- Reviews appropriateness of volunteer involvement upon referral from nursing/social work personnel. Places volunteers where appropriate.
- With other members of the Hospice Team, provide supervision and serves as a resource and liaison for volunteers.
- Completes IDG care plans accurately and timely.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports indicating percentage of volunteer hours provided to patients and the cost saving to hospice.
- Develops and maintains on file volunteer recruitment activity. Recruits interviews, conducts orientation and arranges training for new volunteers sufficient to satisfy Medicare COP for hospice program.
- Captures volunteer feedback and provides opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinates an annual volunteer recognition event.
- Responsible for volunteer retention. This may include support groups, telephone calls, flyers, meeting with the volunteers on an individual basis.
