Volunteer: 🐾 Build Our Rehoming and Owner Support Program
About the Role
Legacy Paws Rescue is seeking a program consultant to design a Rehoming and Owner Support Program in partnership with the Executive Director, then hand it off fully built and ready for volunteers to run. The program focuses on prevention, education, and supporting both ends of the leash — helping people keep their dogs when possible and rehome them safely when not.
Deliverables
- Intake and triage process — A simple way for owners to reach out and a clear path to the right kind of help.
- Owner support resources and referral directory structure — Honest resources on behavior, veterinary costs, food assistance, and housing, plus the structure for a local referral directory covering Catawba County and surrounding counties in western North Carolina (the team will gather local contacts).
- Responsible rehoming toolkit — Guidance on writing honest dog profiles, screening adopters, and spotting red flags.
- Case tracking system — One place to log each owner and dog, the help offered, and outcomes.
Definition of done: All four pieces built, handed off, and walked through with the team. Simple enough for a volunteer to run, and warm enough that an overwhelmed owner feels helped, not judged.
Timeline
8 to 10 weeks.

Who We're Looking For

- Belief that keeping a dog home is the best rescue of all.
About Legacy Paws Rescue
Mission: At Legacy Paws, our mission is to create a community of kindness through education, prevention, and rescue. We believe the best way to change the lives of dogs is not only to rescue them when they are in crisis, but to help prevent that crisis whenever possible. We educate people about how dogs think, communicate, learn, and experience the world, while providing practical support and resources to help people and dogs succeed together. When rescue is needed, we step in for the dogs who have nowhere else to turn — especially those who are overlooked because of age, medical needs, trauma, or circumstances beyond their control. Everything we do comes back to one belief: Healing and learning happens on both ends of the leash. Rescue isn't where we end. It's where we begin.
