Volunteer: ❤️ Build Our Donor Relations Program

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. This is a short-term, project-based role. Legacy Paws Rescue is looking for a donor relations consultant to work with our Executive Director to build a simple, heartfelt way of staying connected with the people who support us, then hand it off to our team to run. We're building a different kind of rescue, focused on prevention, education, and supporting both ends of the leash. Some of our supporters have been with us since the very beginning, like the local business that's donated dog food from day one. They didn't just give us food. They gave us someone in our corner who believed in what we were doing. We want every donor to feel that kind of connection, to see exactly what their gift made possible, and to know they're part of something, not just a name on a receipt. Right now we don't have the structure to keep up with that the way people deserve. This project has a clear finish line. But we have more work ahead, including a donor database build, and if you connect with the mission, we'd love to talk about what comes next. Donor stewardship plan. When and how we stay in touch after a first gift, so nobody only hears from us when we need something. 2. Impact update templates. Easy formats for dog updates, quarterly notes, and year-end recaps. 3. Monthly giving program. How to invite supporters into monthly giving genuinely and keep them connected. 4. Sponsor recognition guide. How we thank businesses, including asking first if they want public recognition. What "done" looks like All four pieces built, handed off, and walked through with our team. Simple enough for a volunteer, genuine enough to never feel like a sales pitch. Timeline: 6 to 8 weeks Tools we use: Zeffy, Facebook Fundraisers, PayPal Giving Fund, Google Workspace, and QuickBooks. Who we're looking for Someone experienced in donor stewardship or nonprofit communications who writes warmly and believes thanking people well matters as much as asking. If you believe giving is about connection, not pressure, we'd love to build something meaningful with you. LEGACY PAWS RESCUE Mission: At Legacy Paws, our mission is to create a community of kindness through education, prevention, and rescue. We believe the best way to change the lives of dogs is not only to rescue them when they are in crisis, but to help prevent that crisis whenever possible. We educate people about how dogs think, communicate, learn, and experience the world, while providing practical support and resources to help people and dogs succeed together. When rescue is needed, we step in for the dogs who have nowhere else to turn—especially those who are overlooked because of age, medical needs, trauma, or circumstances beyond their control. Everything we do comes back to one belief: Healing and learning happens on both ends of the leash. Rescue isn’t where we end. It’s where we begin.
