Permanent, full-time fixed-term position for 12 months.

About the role

We are looking for qualified (NVQ 2/3 or City & Guilds) and experienced carpenters to carry out a full range of carpentry tasks across our varied housing stock of 28,000 homes around Bristol. You will be part of a busy team, working mainly in customers’ homes and communal areas, delivering excellent customer service alongside great carpentry skills.

Responsive Repairs is responsible for quality day-to-day repairs in tenanted homes, planned works programmes, and the refurbishment of empty homes to bring them back to a lettable standard. Our aim is to carry out the right repair first time within agreed timescales and provide a safe, secure, habitable home our tenants can be proud of.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of carpentry tasks across Bristol City Council’s housing stock.
• Work in customers’ homes and communal areas, delivering high-quality repairs and refurbishments.
• Provide excellent customer service, including clear communication with tenants.
• Ensure repairs are completed correctly and efficiently within agreed timescales.

Requirements

• Relevant trade qualifications (NVQ 2/3 or City & Guilds).
• Proven experience as a carpenter.
• CSCS registration.
• Full driving licence.
• Medium level of fluency in English, with the ability to converse with citizens and provide complex information accurately, either directly or through a BSL interpreter.

Additional Information

For permanent Bristol City Council employees, this post will be a secondment. For employees currently on a fixed-term contract, the secondment must not extend beyond the end of the fixed-term period. Casual workers or agency staff currently working with Bristol City Council will be offered a fixed-term contract.
