Voice and Unified Communications Engineer
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot existing Cisco voice systems; analyze telecommunications requirements and plans, program and test telecommunications systems.
- Work with external vendors to identify faults and log circuit outages. Investigate hardware and software problems with voice/network devices and work with the manufacturers' support teams to resolve - ensuring the stability of the service.
- Monitor the health of the voice and UC infrastructure using an array of network monitoring and analysis tools.
- Assess the platform for any security vulnerabilities and manage the remediation, including any major upgrades where appropriate.
- Ensure proactive capacity planning, and that appropriate contingency/recovery plans are in place and maintained accordingly.
- Prepare and maintain technical platform related documentation.
- Assist in capturing data required for the design and implementation of new UC systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance (on-site and remotely) of all voice-related systems, including cable plant, firmware upgrades and platform level updates, monitor performance and carry out equipment repairs.
- Configure, verify and monitor system backups.
- Program the existing Cisco platform and maintain routing tables in the most efficient manner.
- Maintain and recommend security systems to protect against unauthorized access and analyze data to detect unauthorized usage and fraud.
Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of supporting a WAN and LAN network infrastructure. Switching and routing (Cisco), network diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
About the Role
The Voice and Unified Communications Engineer provides technical services to the IT teams, business end-users, and IT Managers in line with Squire Patton Boggs Technology strategic and operational objectives. The role holder ensures that effective technical problem resolution, knowledge transfer and skills development exists at all levels across Squire Patton Boggs Technology team. They also work as part of the global Network Communications team, involved in the design and implementation, commissioning and decommissioning of new and existing infrastructure.
