Vocational/Education Counselor - Beh Health Young Adult

Job Summary

Responsible for providing direct counseling and support to individuals experiencing a mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Individual counseling and support including vocational and/or educational planning and goal setting, job development, job placement, and follow-along support. The majority of work is community-based.

Details of the position

• Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team by participating in weekly case review meetings, collaborative treatment planning, and supporting individual progress through integrated care.
• Helps clients establish and achieve goals of competitive employment within the mainstream community.
• Helps clients achieve educational goals that lead to gainful competitive employment.
• Completes initial assessments with all clients and documents ongoing progress in an electronic medical record.
• Conducts job and education development by actively recruiting, engaging, and offering ongoing support to employers and schools.
• Aids individuals who are experiencing psychosis to develop and practice coping strategies to use at school and work.
• Aids clients in establishing health insurance and income through public benefits and work incentive programs as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What you bring

• Bachelor's Degree Required: in related field (social work, vocational counseling, psychology, etc.). Preferred: Degree in Vocational Counseling.
• Minimum of 3 years Required: vocational counseling experience.
• Preferred: Master's Degree in related field.
• Qualified Mental Health Associate.
• Driver's License and ability to transport clients in a PeaceHealth vehicle.
• Mandatory: Active NPI for client billing purposes.

• Minimum of 3 years Required: vocational counseling experience.
• Required: Qualified Mental Health Associate.
• Required: Driver's License and ability to transport clients in a PeaceHealth vehicle.
• Must meet PeaceHealth Driver Standards which includes no major alcohol or drug-related convictions within the past 3 years.
• Basic Life Support Skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of symptoms of psychosis.
• Ability to recruit and establish a network of potential employers and academic programs.
• Ability to provide assessment and crisis intervention with individuals experiencing acute psychological distress.
• Skills in conflict resolution and advocacy.
• Strong problem solving, critical thinking, work ethic, interpersonal and team building skills.
• General knowledge of behavioral healthcare environment and healthcare delivery systems.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.

Working Conditions

• Lifting: Consistently operates computer and other office equipment. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work.
• Environmental Conditions: Predominantly operates in an office environment.
• Mental/Visual Ability: To communicate and exchange accurate information. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
