Hiring Agency Education & Labor Cabinet | Department of Workforce Development Location 8412 Westport Road Louisville, KY 40242 USA Description The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities. We are seeking a Voc Rehab Program Specialist II to perform independent professional vocational rehabilitation functions such as vocational or technology assessments, rehabilitation technology, job development and job placement, supported employment, vocational evaluation, rehabilitation instruction, basic public relations and/or marketing functions in a rehabilitation program. Key Responsibilities Provides training to individuals on job-seeking skills leading to competitive integrated employment, including application procedures, resume writing and interview preparation. Conducts instructional classes for individuals on the World of Work curriculum. Stay up to date regarding job fairs and internet resources; research various resume programs. Initiates and maintains ongoing contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement or training agencies to promote individual work-based learning opportunities. Makes cold calls to potential employers explaining the benefit of hiring people with disabilities and the supportive services the agency provides such as job training and assistive technology. Provides job search, Career Pathway, and local labor market information to individuals and arranges for interviews. Conduct necessary follow-up with employers when individuals are in work experiences. Monitors individuals' on-the-job performance and counsels them when job performance is not satisfactory; works with individuals to improve performance and gain necessary job skills and considers other employment options; maintains contact with employers during training or employment and documents and reports results to appropriate agency staff. Provides technical expertise to employers and the public on specialized skill areas. Participates in outreach and recruitment activities by coordinating and attending job fairs. Documents and makes recommendations for additional training, reports relevant observations to counselors, makes recommendations on devices, aids and services necessary to gain or maintain employment. Performs other duties as assigned. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Master's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching, technology or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, orientation and mobility, social work, education, health services, business administration, human resource administration, workforce development, communications, sciences or a related field. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years experience in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching, technology or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, orientation and mobility, social work, education, health services, business administration, human resource administration, workforce development, communications, sciences or a related field. One year of the required experience must be working directly with an individual with a disability in any capacity, paid or unpaid. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree plus an additional two years of professional experience in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching, technology or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, orientation and mobility, social work, education, health services, business administration, human resource administration, workforce development, communications, sciences engineering or mathematics or a related field will substitute for the required master's degree. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
