About the Role
VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong L3 administration and engineering expertise across the VMware vSphere suite, supporting mission-critical enterprise environments while maintaining SLAs.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for mission-critical enterprise VMware environments.
- Administer and manage large-scale VMware environments, including VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), VMware vSphere, and Disaster Recovery solutions.
- Design, configure, and maintain ESXi hosts, VMware clusters, and resource pools.
- Perform lifecycle management of DELL and HPE ESXi hardware.
- Plan and execute VM migrations using VMware HCX, including vMotion, Bulk Migration, Cold Migration, and Replication-Assisted vMotion.
- Optimize virtual infrastructure for performance, capacity, and scalability.
- Implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, including Zerto, based on RPO/RTO requirements.
- Configure and manage DR technologies, including replication, failover, and failback.
- Execute DR testing, failover scenarios, and recovery validation to ensure business continuity.
- Integrate VMware platforms with enterprise storage technologies (SAN, NAS, vSAN) and manage storage provisioning, replication strategies, and performance tuning.
- Ensure virtual infrastructure alignment with enterprise network architecture.
- Support vulnerability remediation and compliance requirements, including SOC-driven scans, and maintain adherence to enterprise security policies.
- Create and maintain technical blueprints, architecture diagrams, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide 24x7 production support.
- Use Aria Operations (Aria Ops) for monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Ansible, Terraform, and PowerCLI to automate infrastructure provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Maintain operational documentation and SOPs.
- Execute infrastructure changes in accordance with enterprise change management processes and document design decisions, configurations, and implementation steps.
- Participate in CAB reviews to ensure minimal risk to production systems.
- Support audit requests and regulatory compliance requirements.
Requirements
- 4-6 years of hands-on experience with VMware vSphere administration and engineering.
- Strong L3 administration and engineering expertise across the VMware vSphere suite.
- Hands-on experience with DELL and HPE hardware platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of VMware components, including:
- HCX
- HA
- DRS
- vMotion
- Distributed Switches
- Failover mechanisms
- Strong knowledge of Zerto disaster recovery replication topologies.
- Hands-on experience building ESXi infrastructure workflows and automating day-to-day operations using:
- PowerCLI
- Ansible
- Terraform
- Practical working knowledge of cloud fundamentals and experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Proven ability to collaborate with network, compute, application teams, and infrastructure stakeholders.
